The future of Desktop Interaction

Most of you serious geeks out there already know about Sun Microsystems Project Looking Glass, and are as excited about not only the potential of the project itself, but the hopes of re-inventing the desktop user expierence altogether.

If Looking Glass succeeds, then wonderful. I've been working on Sun hardware and Solaris for a couple of years now, and can't say too many bad things about Sun and Java in general. But even if it fails - at least in the short term, there's the undeniable fact that this new way of interacting with a PC in the "desktop" model could be changed forever.

There are those who will argue that the next way human beings will interface with computers will be through mind impants, or in the use of sensors responding to sensitive electrical stimuli in the brain. Some will even say the next wave of user interaction will come as a "Virtual Reality" (Which if you will recall attempted to take off in the early and mid-1990's but never got full steam).
