SimCity 5 - Societies
This morning I took a look at some of the new screenshots and summaries of what seems to be the latest addition forthcoming to my favorite game, SimCity. From what little I've seen so far, I don't like the direction it's heading.
Compare this first screen shot (left) of the upcoming SC5 against an existing SC4 Asian themed city (right) from SimTropolis user "Cockatoo-210893". At first glance, SC5 takes a step backward in graphics by aiming for a more "cartoon" like, soft 3D feel.
Unlike most, I view SimCity 4 as the absolute crown jewl of the series. The immersion into complexity and the detail which you are in control of really engages you. It's much more strategic and time consuming, but well worth it. This is all in addition to the other facet of SC4 which is the online community and pluggable mod's which allow you to expand the game to your hearts desire - something I haven't seen discussed for this next release.
The information at 1up.com indicates that there *could* be potentially major changes to the overall model of how the game is played. While early information on an upcoming game title can always deviate from what actually is produced, the red flag has been raised - EA has transfered development of this SimCity sequel away from (what used to be) Maxis and to Tilted Mill Productions.
If these early descriptions prove to be true, this could spell the end of my long lived enjoyment of a game I've been playing (and paying for) since my childhood. July's GFW will reveal the first concrete details of the release.

Dude, I agree. I wish they would make an even more detailed and complex Simcity 4, instead of this Simcity Societies BS.
